RPD Capital Division Staff (Angela Gengler, Svetlana Karasyova, Mark Langan, Robert McDonald, Debra Dwyer, Maria Zlotnikov and Rosey Jencks) worked with a group of PROSAC members (Patrick Hannan, Jeanne Darrah and Laura Bowlby) to determine a format for the Park Planning Community Workshops held in the Fall of 2003. This format was designed to meet two objectives:
Districts were arranged into four groups of two or three based on location and shared interests among neighborhoods. A total of four two hour meetings were held as follows:
-
Participants were greeted and encouraged to sign in. Here they received packets of information on the parks, facilities, and projects in their districts as well as their districts' demographic profiles.
-
Participants were encouraged to visit "Stations" of active Capital Improvement Projects in their Districts, where Project Directors as well as park and recreation staff were available for questions.
-
The Capital Program Manager, Yomi Agunbiade, then gave a short presentation on the Capital Division and the planning process.
-
Participants were then organized into small group meetings by District. These meetings were led by two facilitators, who led them through a questionnaire that had been developed based on research and analysis on parks planning in five major areas; these areas were based on comments received during the 2002 Capital Plan Update process as well as the status of currently available data.
